Ponggol Nasi Lemak Centre, located at 238 Tanjong Katong Rd, has earned a reputation as a go-to spot for nasi lemak cravings. Reviewers frequently highlight the restaurant's fragrant and fluffy rice, infused with coconut and pandan, which serves as the ideal base for this classic dish. One standout feature is the crispy fried chicken wing, praised for its juiciness and flavorful batter, while the sambal adds a delicious kick that perfectly complements the rice.
The selection of vegetable sides, particularly the tender eggplant and lady fingers, are often viewed as underappreciated yet essential elements of the meal. For those seeking a heartier experience, the runny sunny-side-up egg enhances the overall richness, making every bite indulgent. Reviewers consistently praise the crispy chicken wings and flavorful sambal, which provide a satisfying balance of texture and spice. The establishment is noted as a reliable hawker spot that caters well to nasi lemak cravings, especially as a supper destination. The combination of consistent food quality and welcoming environment contributes to its steady popularity.
A satisfying fix for nasi lemak cravings. The chicken wing is crispy and tasty. I personally prefer the usual ikan bilis over the tiny silverfish version (银鱼仔), but it’s still alright. The chili is flavourful with a nice kick. The rice is nice and fragrant, though not the best I’ve had. Overall, still a solid and enjoyable plate of nasi lemak.
RICE PERFECTION If you’re craving a satisfying plate of nasi lemak, Ponggol Nasi Lemak at Katong is a must-visit. The star of the dish — the nasi — is fragrant, fluffy, and rich with coconut flavour. The rice is beautifully cooked with pandan leaves, giving it a soft, fluffy texture and a fragrant aroma that lingers with every bite. Even my husband, who’s usually quite picky with rice, couldn’t stop praising it! The vegetable sides are truly underrated. The eggplant, long beans, and lady fingers are cooked to perfection — tender yet full of bite, lightly seasoned to complement the rice without overpowering it. Their runny sunny-side-up eggs are also a standout, adding that creamy richness to every bite. We also tried their spicy fried chicken, which was crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and packed with bold, fiery flavour. It definitely adds a punch to the overall experience. Prices here are slightly on the higher side for nasi lemak, but you do get what you pay for — quality ingredients, generous portions, and bold flavours. The portion size is just right: satisfying without feeling too heavy. Highly recommend if you're in the East and want a nostalgic yet elevated nasi lemak fix!
Have visited this outlet of Punggol Nasi Lemak as few times. I feel it’s like any standard 4 rating (out of 5) Nasi Lemak place. Nonetheless, it’s a decent place to quench your Nasi Lemak cravings. Dunno if they have a standard Nasi Lemak set which you can order because whenever I’ve visited, I’ve just chosen the various side dishes to go along with the rice and fried chicken. Overall, a decent place to stop by for lunch for dinner if you’re in the area. But not sure if the place matches its hype.
Good plate of nasi lemak and an even better supper spot (till 2330). The rice was fresh and fragrant, with a good hint of coconut taste in it. Egg and luncheon meat is what you expect from it. The stars of the show are definitely the chicken wing and sambal. Firstly, the chicken wing was extremely crispy with a good layer of batter, followed by juicy chicken breast. The sambal was spicy and has a good kick to it. It complemented the rice extremely well. My only regret was not getting the ikan bills with it. This plate costed $7.50, a little pricy
This is the best nasi lemak to my taste. Apart from the delicious food, the restaurant is always kept clean and bright.
